Hail to the music video - Many people have allready said much about the videos, they ARE art, they ARE beautifull, except, and here s where my two bits come in, the video for Paranoid Android is vulgar, greatly dissapointing, and quite the opposite of the conflicting beauty and tension of the song. I try hard not to think of this gross and undermining video when I listen to the song. Thankfully I have the Vancouver planetarium s glorious star and laser show of Radiohead to remember when I play the song, and I will allways picture an intense shower of falling stars and flying through space when the tension eases in the song and Thom sings ",Rain down, rain down on me",. They could have done something really profound and inspiring with this song like they did with the other songs. What a shame. My favorite is Street Spirit, so gossamer and haunting. It reminds me a bit of Depeche Mode s video for Halo, and U2 s All I want is You with the caravans, darkness and inner torment.I was really blown away by the other 6 videos on the disc and several of my fave Radiohead songs are here. I lament my years of loosing track of the realm of music video. Long may it thrive and prosper as a respected art form!
Let Down - Any serious or even semi-serious Radiohead listener knows that depression is a deep, complex, and many splendered thing. There is the relationship falling to parts around your feet depression of ",Morning Bell",, the suicidal depression of ",Let down",, there is the classic failure to fit in or live up to your own unattainable vision of personal perfection of ",Creep", or the who the heck knows what is wrong with Thom this time but it is pretty black and incoherent depression of ",Pyramid song",.None of these beautiful depressions are available in these videos. If you are so foolish as to purchase these videos the depression you will likely experience will be nothing more impressive than the I just wasted money that I could have spent on some nice Bjork videos instead depression. Very similar to the feeling you might experience if you were to dispose of your money in some other artless way like dropping it into the office shredder. The only possible excuse for buying these videos is that you ve already watched Meeting People is easy four hundred and fifty times and you simply must own everything that Radiohead has ever produced. Even so, I assert that a muddy brick on which you ve written ",I want to give birth to Thom s children", would look much better in your Radiohead shrine than this tripe.I m serious: these videos push the envelope of modern boredom. Avoid them.
RADIOHEAD LIVE AND IN COLOR RIGHT ON YOUR TELEVISION! - let me first off by saying that I am a radiohead junky. i love the band to death and listen to one of thier albums at least once a day. be it hail to the thief, kid a, ok computer, amnesiac.......i cant get enough. so anyway, i decided that i liked thier music so much it would be nice to own some of thier music videos. this dvd features 7 songs which is very nice. there is nothing extra besides the videos so if you are expecting a little something extra-it doesnt exist. that doesnt really matter though because the videos are why you are buying this dvd in the first place. each one is fairly interesting. i really enjoy paranoid android, karma police and no surprises the most because they are from ok computer. high and dry is also pretty interesting. all of the videos are well shot and the picture quality from the dvd is top notch. if you like radio head and you want something to watch while the music is playing i would recommend this. i just wished radiohead made some more music videos to accompany hail to the theif.
Fantastic - This DVD is an excellent value... i picked it up for only 14 bucks!Worth it alone for the very intriguing/moving street spirit video.
Simply awesome! - What can I say that hasn t already been said about Radiohead and the videos in this collection? The two-cents I d like to add is directed towards the individuals who criticize this DVD for not having any additional material. When you think about it, this is a direct reissue of a VHS video that appeared in 1998 and unfortunately did not stay in print very long. Once it became unavailable, copies would appear on eBay and command fairly high bids, so with that being said, this DVD release is actually a damn good value! Sure I d also like to have their other videos, but I m just grateful that this original collection FINALLY saw the light of day on DVD. And on the other hand, there will always be purists who criticize reissues that ADD bonus material (the argument being that it detracts from the original ",artwork",), so it really just goes to show that you can t please 100% of the people 100% of the time!
